At Goupie, we are lucky enough to have a couple of amazing part-time employees who help us make all of our chocolate in our little factory. Aside from them, the entire business is run by us, Janet and Grace Simpson, mother-daughter team! Weve been working together, full-time, for over 8 years now (where has the time gone?!) and in that time weve seen ourselves stocked with national distributors, iconic retailers and local heroes. Its been a tough few years for small business, and weve definitely felt the strain, but thanks to our amazing customers, were still around! Heres hoping we can stick it out for another 8 years...

Do you know the difference between compostable and biodegradable packaging?

All of our bags, boxes and labels are certified as compostable. This means that under standard composting conditions they will break down within 12 weeks. Its especially important that our Goupie bags are disposed of with your food waste collection or in your own home composter. In order to protect our chocolates, these bags only react to very specific heat and microbiological conditions which general waste disposal will not be able to replicate as efficiently.

We know it can be a bit of a brain buster deciphering all of these eco credentials, so weve done a whole piece about the difference between compostable and biodegradable on our website, as well as the different standards for them.
