Founded in 2011 by both Dr Andy Reason and Dr Norman Lewis, in true entrepreneurial style, they left behind their scientific backgrounds to pursue their passion for craft spirits. Later to go down in the history books, as Kent’s first gin distillery in 200 years. Drawing on their experience as research and development chemists, the ambition of Anno Distillers was to be recongnised as as luxury British spirits brand. Placing one eye firmly on the science behind the manufacturing, with another focused on displaying the best Kent has to offer. Kent’s first micro-distillery, located in the scenic Kentish town of Marden, boasts a 300 litre copper pot, responsible for producing every one of Anno’s delicious spirits.
The Anno range currently consists of 5 flavours, the first being Anno Sloe Gin, ruby-red in appearance which combines a rich and nutty infusion to create a multi award winning masterpiece. A limited edition Cranberry gin, which makes for the perfect festive Christmas treat, seasonally spiced with orange, and all things nice. The tantalizingly tasty Elderflower Vodka, renowned for its long-lasting flavour it certainly does leave a floral sensation behind. Anno Kent Dry Gin, which is their flagship multi award winning gin, infused with the great Kent countryside this outstanding super-smooth gin provides for a memorable tasting experience. Finally, the Anno 60 Squared Gin which was created to celebrate Andy and Norman’s 60th birthdays and consists of 60% gin and bold flavours.
We’re obviously not the only ones who love Anno, they have accumulated some great awards along the way: Food & Drinks Awards 2016, Great Taste Awards 2014, 2017, 2018, Taste of Kent Award Winners 2015, 2016, International Wine & Spirit Competition Award Silver, 2015, 2017, 2018, and the famous San Francisco World Spirits Competition Silver Award 2017 to name just a few!
For Anno groupies, they can embark on distillery tours which start at £12, which includes a talk on the history of the Marden distillery, a guided tasting session, and not to forget that the tour includes a £5 redeemable voucher which can be put towards a 70cl bottle of Anno. For true gin connoisseurs, they can sign up for the £25 tour which awakens senses in several fun ways.
With a strong passion for business and a scientific backing there is no reason not to believe Anno will continue to achieve greatness and produce the finest Kentish spirits.
