The Rise of Zero Waste

I think we'd all agree that we're interested in living a more sustainable lifestyle, and trying to do our part. However, sometimes with our busy schedules and fast-paced society, it's easy to slip into bad routines when making the sustainable option feels too hard or expensive. We're probably all guilty of this, which is why it's so great to see Zero Waste stores popping up and making it that much easier to make a more environmentally friendly choice.

In our local area, Tunbridge Wells (Kent), we've been fortunate enough to be blessed with a number of local zero-waste options and we think that they deserve some praise! These stores bring us one step closer to a more circular economy simply by being there. What's more, is they help to bring back that feeling of community via a local shop which in this current climate, feels more important than ever!

Zilch Zero Waste - Tonbridge

This little store was opened by Emma-Louise last year and, despite a fair few challenges thrown their way, have thrived! The store is absolutely beautiful, yet simple, with wall to wall containers of everything from beauty products to pasta. Ok, so we may be a little bias, Zilch Zero Waste also stocks Goupie! However, this is due to their desire to source local products wherever possible and support small business.

Aside from providing customers with an alternative to supermarket products covered in plastic packaging in their bricks and mortar store, Zilch Zero Waste also have a webshop. What's more, is for every order over £10 they'll plant a tree in your honour to offset carbon emissions.

Follow their Instagram for new product arrival updates, opening times, and handy tip bits!

The Zero Waste Company - Tunbridge Wells

Opening on the Pantiles at a similar time to our Goupie Chocolate House, we absolutely love the Zero Waste Company! Their attitude towards the local community during the pandemic has been second to none, and we've personally found their Instagram page incredibly comforting...

The store was started by friends Holly and Charlotte and provides refills for all household essentials such as household cleaning, food cupboard essentials and personal hygiene products. Towards the back of the store, they also have their vegetarian cafe serving hot drinks and food. If you're local to the area, you can also order online for deliveries on Mondays and Thursdays.

Contain Yourself - Southborough

If the name itself wasn't enough to keep you interested, Contain Yourself started life at local farmer's markets in 2018 and expanded into its very own retail premises in early 2020 and we couldn't be happier for them!

As with all the stores we've mentioned, Contain Yourself is an essential store and so remaining open, but you can pre-order online to avoid as much time in store as possible, here. Follow them in Instagram for further updates!
