We've all got old clothes that we really should be getting rid of. Whether they've got holes, a grim looking stain, they don't fit any more, or you simply can't remember why you ever bought it in the first place! We've got a super-easy way to reuse those old clothes, and make something useful for day-to-day life.
All you need is an A4 piece of paper, scissors, a needle and thread and you're good to go!
1. Iron the clothing that you're looking to use, so that it lays completely flat. If you're using a t-shirt, you'll need to cut down one of the seams so that you have a single piece of fabric.
2. Cut around an A4 piece of paper to create two rectangles of fabric. It may be useful if you pin the paper to your garment to keep a neat line.
3. Fold down the top 2 cm of the fabric of the first rectangle of fabric (so that you're folding the shorter side), and sow a straight line across the edge of the folded piece of fabric. Repeat on the second piece of fabric.
4. Put the two pieces together so that the folded sides of the fabric are facing away from each other.
5. Sow together the two piece of fabric starting from just under your first sowed line (if you start at the very top, you will close up the loop you've just made) and skirting around the 3 edges until you meet the first line again on the other side.
6. Turn your bag inside out. You will now have a bag with a top rim. Through this you can thread an old piece of ribbon, string, t-shirt strap, or whatever else you have to hand!
Now you have a rustic produce bag, ready to pop to the shops with! We used a sowing machine, but this can easily be done by hand. The important thing to remember is, it doesn't have to be perfect!
You can make these any size you want, we just used an A4 sheet as a guide, as we felt everyone had it to hand...
