This (accidentally vegan) recipe can be found in the same family cookbook as the original Goupie recipe. For Grace and me, it brings back childhood memories of Halloween where we'd cut out bats and pumpkins from the dough. It's super nostalgic and super delicious, and it's too good not to share!

I've written it just as it comes in the battered up book.

400°F is roughly 200°C

Method

Sieve flour & cocoa and rub in fat.

Add the sugar and mix well, then mix to a stiff dough with the water and essence.

Turn it onto a lightly floured board, roll thinly, and cut into fancy shapes.

Baked on a greased tin in a moderately hot oven (400°F) for 10-15 mins.

When cold, sprinkle with icing sugar.
