Halloween is nearly upon us once again and so it only seems fitting that we bring you another spooky treat for the occasion. This year, we've made some gruesome dough balls - guaranteed to get your eyes watering. Each dough ball has a oozing chocolate filling - but watch out - there's a couple of tricks hidden amongst the treats! We've kept this recipe completely vegan friendly so that everyone can get involved in the All Hallows' Eve fun! Happy Halloween Goupie Groupies!
What You Do
Mix the yeast, sugar and warm water and leave for 5 minutes until bubbles form on the surface.
Blitz the Goupie into a fine crumb and add to the yeast mix along with soya milk, salt and flour. Kneed for 10 minutes and leave to rise for at least an hour.
The dough should have at least doubled in size. Split the dough into around 30 equal portions.
With 15 of these portions, add a small piece of chocolate and roll into a ball. Leave to rise for a further 15-20 minutes.
With the other 15, add a small amount of chilli powder along with the chocolate to your balls, and again leave the rise.
Bake your balls on 180 oC for 15 minutes and leave to cool.
Mix icing sugar with cold water to form a thick icing. Coat your cooled balls with the white icing and leave to set.
In the meantime you can prepare 30 iris's with coloured fondant icing. Form a small ball with the icing and press this into a flat disc. Top with a chocolate button or black icing ball.
Use red food colouring and a toothpick to create veins down your eyes and top with your coloured discs to create the finish gruesome eyeball.
Goupie Tip: This recipe makes the perfect Halloween game! Simply slip in some Chilli Goupie to half of your dough balls so that when it comes to serving, each guest receives a trick or a treat in their dough ball!
