FAQs

What is Goupie?

Goupie is a devilishly moreish chewy chocolate confectionery with a hint of crunch. If that didn't quite clear things up, you're really going to have to try it!

How long after I order will I receive my delivery?

We aim to dispatch all orders using next day delivery within 5 working days.

How is Goupie made?

We really can't tell you that, the recipe is top secret! What we can tell you is that the recipe is based on an old family treat and is hand-made in Goudhurst, Kent, by our artisan Goupie-makers.

Why are the pieces different shapes and sizes?

We hand-cut each and every piece and and so there is bound to be a certain amount of disparity between pieces. Each piece is also hand-topped to give our treats extra charm!

Which flavours are vegan friendly?

All Goupie flavours are vegan friendly!

Which flavours are gluten-free?

All Goupie flavours are gluten-free!

Which flavours are dairy-free?

It's easier to say which flavours aren't dairy-free! Our white chocolate flavours: White Lavender, White Cardamom, Mochaccino and White Christmas are all made with our vegan friendly white chocolate.

Unfortunately, the factory which produces this white chocolate handles dairy and so we would advise that serious allergy sufferers stay clear of these flavours.

How do you deal with allergies in the factory?

We take our allergen control very seriously. Our factory only handles soya, nuts and sesame. However, our white chocolate is manufactured in a factory which handles dairy.

In our own factory, we keep all ingredients on segregated shelving, and ensure that separate utensils are used for each batch. We are also SALSA certified which means that we can trace each batch to the individuals who were involved in each stage, and the ingredients used.

Of course, no system is perfect and so we are constantly looking to review our processes for improvements. Please do get in touch if you have any concerns or questions.

Why do you use Palm Oil and what does RSPO mean?

We looked high and low to find a more sustainable solution to the fat element of our product. In the end, we returned to palm oil and we'd like to explain here why.

Firstly, it's important to note that we do not just use any palm oil, but an RSPO* certified palm oil which is sourced from the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. This means that, not only can we pinpoint where every batch came from to ensure that no deforestation has occurred, but also that they won't be anywhere near those lovely Orangutans!

Secondly, palm oil has one of the highest yields per square kilometre, beating all other edible oils. This makes it a much more viable option for sustainable growth than say coconut, or sunflower oil (in our opinion). We're of the mind that if everyone stops using palm oil, and switches to these alternative oils, we're going to have the same (if not worse) issues later down the line. It makes much more sense to us, that we support accreditation systems which look to protect the environment and local populations.

But why use any oil at all? Simply, our recipe requires some form of hard fat to keep the form. We were determined not to use an animal product, and so replaced the original butter in the recipe. This is our best solution so far and we'll endeavour to keep our eye out for better alternatives.

*RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) is a body who monitor and develop an environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil.
